Further welcome news about proposed developments in North Yorkshire has emerged this week. The first involves the former TERRYS Chocolate Factory site at York, home of the famous Chocolate Orange produced at the factory until a few years ago.
The City of York Council gave the go-ahead on Wednesday 3rd February, 2010 for the redevelopment of the factory site which is one of the biggest regeneration schemes York has ever had proposed.
It is estimated the proposals will create something of the order of 2700 jobs. The proposals include provision of homes, shops, restaurants, bars, and 2 hotels. The total cost of the scheme is estimated to cost £165 million.
The planning permission comes some eighteen months after the first set of proposals were rejected by the City of York Council, but after further discussion between the Council, local people, and the Developer plans have been adapted leading to yesterday’s approval.
This development is certainly good news for York giving welcome economic growth for the area, which hopefully will give encouragement for those in the development business of similar projects large and small in other areas of the U.K.
